Enugu State Government Sets Up Mining Committee

…says those mining in the state illegally should seize operations or face prosecution

Enugu State Governor through the Secretary to the State Government today at the Government House inaugurated a committee to review the mining activities in Enugu State.

The Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidi Onyia said that the mandate of the committee is as follows:

“To identify all illegal mining sites in the State.

“Stop all illegal mining activities in the State.

“Review all environmental asset documents of all illegal mining companies.

“Reaccessement and revalidation of all mining companies in the State.”

The names of the committee members are as follows:

Prof. Sam .O. Ugwu, Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change — chairman

Dr Kingsley Udeh, Hon. Commissioner for Justice — vice chairman

Kingsley Nnaji, Special Adviser to the Governor on energy and mineral resources — member

Mr Alex Akinlalu, the Chief Security Officer to the Govt House — member.

Onyeabor Vincent, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on security — member

Uche Anichukwu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on external relationships — member.

Dan Nwomeh, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on media — member

Sandra Judge, Special Assistant to the Governor on revenue will serve as the secretary.

Prof. Chidi Onyia said that they had earlier sent a communication to the State, telling all illegal miners to seize operations that a taskforce was going to be set up to address their activities.

He said that those who would contravene their order and go ahead to mine illegally would be prosecuted.

Reacting to the inauguration,.the chairman of the committee Prof. Sam .O. Ugwu assured the SSG that they would do their best and not fail the State Government.
