Enugu State Local Government Election: A Show of Shame!

Enugu State Local Government Election: A Show of Shame!

By Hon. Tony Amalu

What we experienced in the just concluded local government election in Enugu State particularly in Udi LGA where I contested for Chairmanship was nothing short of shameful and regrettable display of madness that is repugnant to fairness, equity and natural Justice in a democratic dispensation.

It’s so unfortunate that irrespective of assurances from the electoral body and security agencies to conduct credible election and provide level playing ground for all parties and contestants respectively were just empty promises.

It’s unexplainable that ENSIEC came to conduct election in my Eke Ward almost at noon without original result sheets. when this anomaly was noticed, eyebrows was raised.
The electoral body was querried and they claimed that they were given only photocopies.

Angered by this ugly situation my people of Eke Ward insisted not to vote till the original result sheets were provided.

They put calls across and to my greatest bewilderement, the PDP contestant arrived in the company of over 40 heavily armed mobile and regular Police men.

They intimidated, coaxed and forcing our people to vote. fortunately, my media team recorded the entire scenario and similar incidences in other pooling units across Udi LGA.

We shall soon make the video evidences available to the world as soon as my media team finish the compilation.

In a sane cline, opposition parties and candidates should be given equal opportunities to vote and be voted for.

An egalitarian society cannot be achieved with this level of unacceptable charade that was witnessed in Udi local Government Area.

Imposition of candidates against the wishes and Caprices of the masses is absurd to say the least, and it must not be allowed to stand.

We must follow all available legitimate means to correct this anomaly and serve our people their deserved justice.

Hon. Tony Amalu is the APC Chairmanship Candidate, Udi Local Government Area.
