The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON), has officially launched the distribution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities to secondary schools across the FCT, marking a major step in the Administration’s commitment to integrating technology into education.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Okeke highlighted the transformative leadership driving this initiative. She attributed its success to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has been actively championed by the Honourable Minister of the FCT.
“We are all witnesses to the transformation that has greeted the FCT since the Honourable Minister’s assumption of office, impacting every sector, including education,” Okeke stated.
She further emphasized the ongoing infrastructural improvements in public schools and expressed confidence that FCT Schools would continue to compete with their counterparts globally.
She also applauded the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, for his dedication to advancing the education sector.
Okeke urged beneficiary Schools to implement measures for the proper maintenance of the facilities to ensure sustainability.
In his welcome address, the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, described the initiative as the first phase of a broader effort to modernize education and promote digital learning in FCT schools.
Dr. Ladan commended the Renewed Hope Agenda for its direct impact on the education sector through the FCT Minister’s unwavering commitment. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, in making the project a reality.
According to Dr. Ladan, 850 computer tablets and 45 laptops will be distributed to 20 Public Senior Secondary Schools across the Six Area Councils of the FCT.
He explained that each School will receive 42 computer tablets for students and two laptops for ICT teachers.
According to him, these resources will boost digital literacy, improve teaching methodologies, and ensure that students are equipped for the technology-driven world.
He assured the Minister and the Secretary for Education that the facilities would be used effectively and contribute positively to academic performance in FCT schools as training for optimal use will commence immediately .
The President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Alhaji Adam Bello Gupa, expressed his appreciation to the Honourable Minister for his outstanding commitment to the education sector.
He noted that since the Minister assumed office, FCT Schools have witnessed massive renovations and reconstructions, significantly improving the learning environment.
Alhaji Gupa also commended the Secretary for Education and the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board for their tireless advocacy in securing resources to enhance teaching and learning.
He assured that ANCOPSS would closely monitor the ICT facilities to ensure their proper utilization, reaffirming their commitment to leveraging technology to improve academic performance and educational outcomes.
The highlight of the program was the official distribution of ICT facilities which has been powered by Solar Panels to beneficiary schools, a strategic step in enhancing digital learning and equipping students with essential technological skills to thrive in a modern digital world.
