FCT Secondary Education Board Trains Teachers for WAEC’s Computer-Based Test Transition

In a significant move to enhance digital literacy and examination preparedness, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board has successfully conducted a Computer-Based Test (CBT) training workshop for senior secondary school teachers across designated zones of the six Area Councils.

 

Speaking before the commencement of the intensive training, the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, stated that the training aimed to equip educators with the necessary skills to guide students through the transition to WAEC’s CBT system.

 

He explained that a total of 88 senior secondary schools were invited to participate, with each school nominating three teachers for the training. A total of 199 participants actively engaged in the workshop, which covered crucial aspects such as CBT navigation, software functionality, and strategies for effective student preparation.

 

Dr. Ladan emphasized that the training represents a proactive step in ensuring that FCT schools are well-prepared for WAEC’s transition to CBT. The Secondary Education Board reaffirmed its commitment to supporting schools in this transition by addressing resource gaps and organizing follow-up sessions for continued learning.

 

He reiterated the Board’s commitment to continuously enhancing the knowledge of teachers, students, and non-academic staff to improve their ability to deliver quality education services. He commended the participants and the ICT experts drawn from various departments and boards within the Education Secretariat for their dedication to this initiative.

 

He further called on stakeholders in the ICT sector to collaborate with the Board to expand ICT knowledge in schools and among staff. He expressed gratitude to the Minister of the FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, for the provision of ICT facilities, including the distribution of laptops and tablets to schools across the FCT. He assured that these facilities would be utilized effectively and maintained for long-term benefits.

 

Expressing their delight about the workshop, the participants acknowledged the immense benefits of the training, particularly the hands-on practice with the WAEC CBT demo platform. They requested additional ICT facilities and the development of an offline CBT demo platform to address connectivity challenges in some schools, as well as further training to accommodate more teachers.

 

The participants also commended the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, for being in the forefront of this first-of-its-kind initiative, which they believe will significantly enhance the preparedness of students and teachers for the digital examination era.

 

The Zones include Kwali, Abaji, AMAC Zone 1,2&3, Gwagwalada, Kuje,Kubwa and Bwari zones respectively
