FG Implores NLC to Halt Ongoing Nationwide Strike

…Confirms Arrest of Political Thugs Who Brutalised the NLC President

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has implored the Nigeria Labour Congress to halt the ongoing nationwide strike due to its crippling effects on economic activities in the country.

In a statement signed by Zakari U Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communications in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Ribadu confirmed that some suspected political thugs who had brutalized Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, had been arrested.

Recall that on November 1st during a protest over unpaid salaries in Owerri, Imo State capital, Ajaero was subjected to brutalization.

In response to this incident and demanding for justice against those responsible and their sponsors; both NLC and Trade Union Congress declared a nationwide strike.

Ribadu pledged that details regarding investigations into Ajaero’s assault would be made public while expressing his concern about how damaging such strikes are towards ordinary Nigerians’ livelihoods as well as national interests.

According to the statement “The NSA regrets the incident and condemns it in its entirety as it was against the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association and expression subscribed to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.

“The Federal Government will never condone such an act.

“As a fallout of the incident, relevant authorities were directed to conduct thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault and bring to book the culprits.

“Available update indicates that some arrests have already been made in this regard. The outcome of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is concluded.” the statement
