…Says NGO Will Kickstart Reforms In Anambra Schools
By Daniel Ezeigwe
Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says the introduction of healthy living clubs in schools will kickstart massive social and moral reforms in Anambra schools and create early age orientation on living right.
Professor Soludo who stated that this while addressing teacher representatives of his wife’s healthy living school clubs in Awka, maintained that the project will lay foundation for better narratives across schools and homes by raising consciousness about what is right in taking care of one’s body as well as their environment.
Speaking on the origin of the healthy living crusade, Governor Soludo said that his wife, Nonye, has been a practical healthy living advocate and is leading the campaign for close to two decades.
He noted that by kicking off the campaign with schools, the programme has been tailored to have great impact on children who would carry the ideology down to the larger society.
While calling for the clubs to also be established in primary schools, Professor Soludo said it is important to move from the present five percent coverage for schools taking part in the programme in Anambra State to complete hundred percent.
The governor further urged the teachers to understand the weight and inestimable value of the tasks before them and to always reflect the change that they want to see in the student club members.
He decried the growing decadence that is plaguing contemporary society, which have also crawled into schools, and asked the teacher ambassadors to pay attention to and deal with cases of drug use and cultism among school children.
