In an effort to eliminate non-existent and unproductive staff, the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has established a 10-member committee on “Local Government Physical Staff Verification and Attendance to Work.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, is heading this committee.
The governor stated that innovation or optimization cannot occur when employees are absent from work.
The committee would be conducting periodic physical verification to determine the actual number of local government workers and ensuring that only those who complete their job responsibilities with satisfactory work output receive salaries.
Our correspondent at the government house, Fred Nnaji reports that Governor Mbah pledged that every salaried worker in the state must be present at work in accordance with public service principles. He warned absconders will face repercussions for their actions over time.
During his inauguration speech of the committee represented by Prof Chidiebere Onyia as he could not attend due to other official engagements., Dr Mbah emphasized his administration’s commitment to traceability transparency accountability hence productivity enhancement at local governance level
The governor further urged LG workers during this verification period until Q1 2024 end date with letters of appointment and working schedules while noting laxity can no longer be excused within state’s Local Government system.
His administration is focused on building a supportive workforce.
