Group Blast Sanwo Olu Over 18M Christmas Chickens

Describes act As Outrageous

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has strongly blasted the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, for reportedly approving N18 million for Christmas chickens.

HURIWA also condemned the governor’s approval of N7.5 million to replace liquid fragrance in his office and N3 billion to purchase rechargeable fans for the deputy governor’s office.

According to media reports quoted by HURIWA, other contracts awarded by the state’s Public Procurement Agency include over N440 million for a new Lexus LX 600 Bulletproof Sport Utility Vehicle and N18.5 million for the supply and distribution of 2,000 Noiler chickens across local government areas in the state.

HURIWA expressed its disappointment at what it called “profligacy” on the part of Lagos State Government officials who are spending millions of naira on luxurious items while many Lagosians live in poverty.

The group described attempts by the state governments to spend N18 million on  Christmas chickens, and rechargeable fans as irresponsible, irrational, insensitive and absolutely outrageous actions that should be condemned.
