- The Leadership and Accountability Initiative, a civil society organization, has petitioned the Federal Ministry of Finance to disclose details of security votes disbursed to Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
According to the group, the petition is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. “The public has a right to know how taxpayers’ money is being spent, especially on sensitive matters like security,” said Hon. Henry Shield, Head of Mission.
The petition, signed by Abraham Momodu, Head of Administration, seeks to uncover the exact amount released as security votes to Governor Soludo, including the dates of disbursement and details of other special security financial interventions by the federal government to the state.
The group submitted the petition under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011, and has pledged to cover any necessary costs for processing the request. The Ministry is expected to respond within seven working days, as mandated by law.
The Petitions:
The Leadership and Accountability Initiative’s move is seen as a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in Anambra State. As Shield noted, “Security votes are meant to enhance the security and well-being of citizens, and it is only fair that the citizens of Anambra, and indeed Nigerians, are informed about how these resources are being managed.”
