Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Walson-Jack, Set to Train 150 FCT NAWOJ Members 

… Plans Major Civil Service Conference  

 

 The Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has reaffirmed her commitment to empowering female journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) through training and collaboration aimed at promoting workplace diversification and gender inclusivity. 

 

Mrs. Walson-Jack dropped this hint, when she and her management team received a delegation from the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, led by Chairperson Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, during a courtesy visit to her office in Abuja. 

 

Commending NAWOJ’s efforts in amplifying women’s voices in the media, the HCSF expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the Association on capacity-building initiatives. She expressed joy that the NAWOJ she knew way back has sustained the tempo and doing very well in the FCT. 

 

According to Mrs Walson -Jack “Training is our field, and we are happy that you asked for training. We will look into your request and see how we can support you in whatever way we can,” she declared. 

 

Mrs. Walson-Jack also used the occasion to reel out plans to host a two-day International Civil Service Conference in Abuja 25/26 June, 2025 to mark the successful implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021–2025) document with the theme “The Final Sprint”.  

She hinted that the conference, expected to attract over 5,000 participants from across Nigeria’s 36 states and beyond, will focus on capacity building, innovation, performance management, and networking among others.  

Declaring 2025 a “year of achievement” for the civil service, the HCSF emphasized that efforts are being intensified to boost service delivery and professional excellence across all strata of government. 

Mrs Walson -Jack, commended NAWOJ FCT for being the first group to visit and appreciate the Civil Service Anthem, actually sing and dance along. She ordered an applause for the delegation of FCT NAWOJ. 

During the visit, FCT NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang congratulated Mrs. Walson-Jack on her historic appointment and acknowledged her as a beacon of excellence for women in leadership.  

 

She presented a proposal for a two-day training program for 150 female journalists in the FCT themed “Workplace Diversification: Advancing Women Journalists’ Role in the Newsroom.” 

 

Comrade Ikpang noted that the training is aimed at equipping female journalists with the tools to thrive in professional settings while maintaining a balanced family life.  

 

According to Comrade Ikpang, the initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of fostering gender balance and inclusivity across sectors. 

 

The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with both parties expressing a strong commitment to a sustained partnership for national development and the empowerment of women in leadership and media. 

 

With this move FCT NAWOJ leadership has kept one of her campaign promise to train and retrain as many members as possible before the expiration of the tenure.
