Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor, participated in a breast cancer awareness walk at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku today, alongside Pink Health Foundation and Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo. This event aimed to address the significant knowledge gap regarding breast cancer among women in Anambra State.
To bridge this gap, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of enlightening women to undergo breast ultrasound screenings upon noticing any breast changes. This preventive measure is crucial in combating breast cancer.
In a remarkable display of commitment, 1,200 women received free breast cancer screenings yesterday at Governor’s Lodge Amawbia. This initiative recognized the financial constraints that often hinder access to such vital tests.
Following the awareness walk, Mrs. Soludo and her team visited hospitalized cancer patients, presenting them with cash gifts and bags of rice to uplift their spirits.
The First Lady extended an invitation to well-meaning individuals, NGOs, and organizations to collaborate in providing free breast cancer screenings across Anambra State. This collective effort is pivotal in eradicating breast cancer.
Mrs. Soludo also urged the people of Anambra State to adopt healthy habits, including consuming natural foods, exercising regularly, abstaining from smoking and alcohol consumption, and drinking ample water.
By embracing a healthy lifestyle, individuals can enhance their resilience against cancer. Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of prioritizing well-being, stating that together, we can combat breast cancer and foster a healthier Anambra State.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, where the event took place, is a leading tertiary health facility providing specialized and comprehensive healthcare services. The hospital’s mission aligns with Mrs. Soludo’s initiative, focusing on improving existing services, research, and training.
The breast cancer awareness walk is part of a broader movement to educate and support individuals affected by cancer. With continued efforts, Anambra State can make significant strides in combating breast cancer and promoting overall well-being.
By promoting awareness, education, and healthy habits, Mrs. Soludo’s initiative aims to create a lasting impact on the lives of women and families in Anambra State, ultimately fostering a healthier community for all.
