Following actionable intelligence on various fraudulent activities, the operatives of the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have nabbed Forty-four (44) suspected internet fraudsters across Enugu and Anambra States.
The suspects who were reportedly arrested in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, 2024 following actionable intelligence linking them to suspected online criminal activities.
The EFCC revealed that preliminary investigations showed that the suspects took advantage of social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to defraud unsuspecting victims while some of the suspects specialized in using fake identities to engage foreign nationals in romantic affairs with intention to defraud them, others were found with fraudulent documents in their devices.
Laptops and different brands of sophisticated mobile phones was also recovered from the suspects.
The anti-graft agency revealed that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
