HURIWA Asks  Tinubu to Help with Zamfara Kidnapped Corp Members

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to personally intervene and rescue the eight corpers kidnapped in Zamfara State four months ago.

HURIWA in a statement by its national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko expressed disappointment that these young individuals were violently abducted by kidnappers who are well armed with sophisticated military grade weapons, and for four months, all security agencies in Nigeria have displayed a lack of intelligence-guided capacities to rescue them.

The group also criticized the nonchalant disposition of the Zamfara State governor towards putting measures into motion that could’ve led to their release.

HURIWA wondered how Zamfara State had become a failed state to the extent that residents paid protection taxes to terrorists and those who fail to pay are easily kidnapped until their relatives bail them out.

The group stated it was worrisome that parents and family members of the prospective corps members from Akwa Ibom State were currently gripped with fear as abductors demanded N10 million each as ransom for their release.

HURIWA recalled that one of the victim’s family members disclosed they had paid over N30.8million ransom so far, yet those children remained in captivity.

The group endorsed the position of one member of the families who claimed these abducted corpers were abandoned by all levels of Nigerian government because they are not from rich or influential backgrounds.

HURIWA pleaded with President Tinubu to intervene and ensure the safe return of these youth corpers while commending NYSC for suspending postings to Zamfara State due to this incident.
