IGP Capacity Building Workshop: CP Orutugu Pledges Enhanced Security Delivery in Anambra

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enhanced security service delivery as he joined participants at the ongoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Capacity Building Workshop in the state.

CP Orutugu made this known on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, while assessing the impact of the workshop currently holding in Awka.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the workshop is themed “Strategic Police Conduct Through Emotional Intelligence, Human Relations, Communication Skills, and Attitudinal Change.” The programme is designed to strengthen professionalism, operational effectiveness, and service-oriented policing within the Nigeria Police Force.

During his visit, the Commissioner interacted extensively with officers undergoing the training and assessed the quality of lecture delivery, level of assimilation, and practical understanding of participants. He expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm, discipline, and professional engagement displayed by the officers.

CP Orutugu noted that the training aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to reposition the Force through continuous capacity development.

“This workshop is timely and impactful. It speaks directly to the need for a modern, professional, and people-centered Police Force driven by emotional intelligence, effective communication, and attitudinal change,” the Commissioner was quoted as saying.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Management of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for sponsoring the workshop, describing the initiative as a critical investment in human capacity development.

The Commissioner also praised the facilitators and organizers for the quality and depth of lectures delivered, stressing that such capacity-building initiatives are essential in equipping officers with modern policing skills, intelligence-led strategies, improved community engagement, and respect for human rights.

“Capacity building must translate to improved field performance. Officers are expected to apply the knowledge gained here to proactive policing, professionalism, and the protection of citizens’ rights,” CP Orutugu emphasized.

He further pledged that the Anambra State Police Command would continue to support initiatives aimed at professional development, assuring residents of the Command’s resolve to deliver enhanced, effective, and people-oriented security services across the state.

The workshop, which commenced on Monday, January 19, 2026, is holding at Trig-Point Hotel, Awka, and has drawn participants from various departments and formations within the Anambra State Police Command.
