Imo NUJ Old Press Center Not For Sale-Chairman

Imo chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, has denied news making rounds over alleged sale of its Old Press Center along Port Harcourt Road.

In a press release by Chairman of the Imo State Chapel, Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP Chairman, he said the Imo State Council’s attention was recently drawn to a purported claim in some quarters that the Old press center of the Union located along Port Harcourt Road has been sold or put up for sale.

It read, “The Imo NUJ as a Union want to state categorically that the Said union’s property located along Port Harcourt Road is not for sale because as property donated to Imo NUJ by Imo State Government, the Title is not transferable. The claim in a section of the media that the facility was either sold or leased is at best a figment of the imagination of the peddlers of such falsehood.

“It’s pertinent to note that every state council property belongs to the National Secretariat of the Union and the least the National Secretariat can approve is lease. And at the moment, no such approval has been secured from either the National Secretariat or any other authority.

“The lease of any NUJ property Nationwide lies within the purview of the National Secretariat to determine or approve such lease.

The chairman made reiterated vividly that Imo the Old NUJ Press Center located along Port Harcourt Road is not for sale, as there is rather an ongoing process to lease a section of it by the immediate past NUJ administration in the State.

The union therefore, urged the general public to disregard such information, saying it remains false and baseless to allege that the Imo press center has been sold.

End.
