IWD: Senator Akobundu Vows to Accelerate Action in Advancing Women’s Cause

…Eulogizes Women for their Sacrifices

The Senator Austin Akobundu of Abia Central Senatorial District has hailed women for the enormous sacrifices they make to keep their homes, nurture their communities and offer themselves as pedestals upon which nations thrive.

Senator Akobundu in his congratulatory message to women on the occasion of International Women’s Day today, 8th of March, 2025, with the theme: “Accelerated Action” promised to advance the cause of the women.

Felicitating , Senator Akobundu  who reiterated his deliberate policies and actions at improving the lots of women by empowering them through education, employment opportunities and advancing their roles in leadership, emphasized that these policies and actions are in tandem with the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, and remain the focal point of his mission for Abia Central women.

He further stated that his installation of streetlights in several markets across Abia Central was aimed at empowering women who are the highest beneficiaries of the initiative as the streetlights encourage them to take advantage of night time business activities to make more sales and profits.

Also, women have been strategically targeted to participate in several free training and empowerment programmes sponsored by Senator Akobundu. Some of such empowerment programmes include free training in farming and sewing, cosmetics making and paints production, digital skills acquisition, cash awards to support their businesses, free distribution of food and household items to widows, scholarships to the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) to train as teachers, among others.

While extolling the virtues of Abia Central women whom he described as hardworking, tenacious, diligent, courageous, kind and devoted to family values, Senator Akobundu promised to continue engaging and supporting them in their endeavours to keep contributing to the peace, progress and development of Abia Central and Abia State in particular, and the nation as a whole.

“Accelerated Action” is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, a theme which calls for “rapid advancements in gender equality, focusing on recognising strategies and tools that drive women’s progress in education, employment, and leadership,” a call which Senator Akobundu is irrevocably committed to.
