The President of the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal Sitting in London, Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN has been announced the 14th Asagba of Asaba Kingdom.
The former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies emerged the Asaba monarch after a meticulous democratic progress by the Asagba-in-Council.
The Council announced Prof. Epiphany Azinge as the most qualified among the 10 contenders in the race stating that he hailed from Ugbomanta quarters.
According to the Anthony Edozien the Ochendo Ahaba, Ugbomanta Quaters is to produce the next Asagba from the five Quarters (Ebos) of Asaba Kingdom, after the demise of Prof. Chike Edozien thus the selection process was in line with the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979, applicable to Delta State.
He said, “Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has been selected among 10 contenders after due process. “He will be coronated in due course.”
The Okilolo of Ahaba has been one of the high-ranking traditional chiefs in the Asagba’s Cabinet.
Other contenders who race for the royal stool includes: Tony Ogugua Konwea, Prof. Emmanuel Onwuka and Ogbuechi Chinedu Esealuka, among others.
