Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo has kicked off grassroots youth engagements for her non-governmental initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo at Orumba South local government headquarters, Umunze.
The exercise is aimed to drive her healthy living messages down to the community level, to get the youths to be more conscious about their health.
The plan is to visit youths in all the twenty-one local government areas of Anambra State, and push the advocacy to all corners of the state.
Addressing the youths, the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, said that youths are important stakeholders in the crusade adding that each programme discusses important health topics and provides answers to critical questions about human health habits and the environment.
Mrs Soludo, who joined in virtually, provided a rundown of the crusade, stated that her intention is to raise healthy living consciousness and make its messages a household habit in Anambra State.
She also raised concerned about the growing cases of drug use among children and youths, pointing out that one of the visions of her campaign is to preach against the trend by speaking about the harms.
On his part, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike who led the Healthy Living team to the event, noted that the governor’s wife is keen to ensure that every Anambra youth benefit from her programme.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South, Prince Neville Uchendu commended Mrs Soludo for kicking off the grassroots engagement in the area, and observed that the programme will get all the support it needs to thrive in Orumba South.
Members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society were also present to teach the youths techniques for Basic Life Saving (BLS) skills which is an important pillar of the healthy living manual.
The president of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth Wing as well as youth leaders from Orumba South, were at the event.
