National Sewing Championship Flag Off: FCT Education Secretariat Reaffirms Support for Vocational Training

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat has reaffirmed its commitment to vocational training and entrepreneurship development at the flag-off ceremony of the 3rd Edition of the National Sewing Championship.

Representative of Honourable Mister of State, FCT, Hajia Majjjidda Adamu Kuku   reiterates the Administration’s efforts to continue to give adequate support to such impactful initiative urging every participant to be focus and be creative.

Speaking and expressing appreciation of the “Skill Up Nigeria ” vocational skills competition, the Permanent Secretary Education Secretariat Mrs Joy Okeke said the Honourable Minister FCT Bar Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON) has been in the forefront of unwavering support for vocational education and skills development initiatives in the FCT hence his commitment to empowering youth through practical and entrepreneurial skills is commendable.

She acknowledged the invaluable contributions of all Stakeholders for their continuous investment in the skills development, fostering innovation and promoting self – reliance among young people.

The Permanent Secretary also thanked the contestants for taking the bold step to showcase their creativity and technical skills commending the organizers for being a beacon of hope for aspiring young entrepreneurs in Nigeria’s fashion industry, promoting innovation and economic empowerment.

In her welcome address earlier, the FCT Director, Department of Mass Education, Dr Favour Edem -Nse of the Education Secretariat has commended the organizers and sponsors of the championship for sustaining a platform that nurtures creativity, innovation, and skill acquisition in the sewing industry.

 

She highlighted the significance of vocational training in driving economic growth and development, emphasizing that the sewing industry plays a vital role in job creation and revenue generation.

 

The Director explained that the FCT Education Secretariat through its departments of Mass Education and Science, Tech and innovation are key Stakeholders and Matron of the initiative pledged continuous technical and partnership support reinforcing the departments’ continued commitment to advancing vocational education and empowering young entrepreneurs.

 

She reaffirmed the Secretariat’ s desire not to relent in its efforts to support stakeholders in line with its mandate of promoting education and vocational empowerment across the FCT.

 

Speaking in the same vein, Director, FCT Department of Science, Technology and innovation, Mr Kolawole Olobashola emphasized on the significance of the competition in promoting vocational skills, fostering entrepreneurship and nurturing young talents in Nigeria.

 

He highlighted the commitment of the FCT Administration to vocational and technical education as it is working towards establishing Vocational Knowledge Centers in each of the Six Area Councils urging the Participants to embrace the spirit of competition, innovation and excellence.

The 3rd Edition of the Ladi Memorial Foundation National Sewing Competition 2025 which brings together dignitaries who spoke on the positive impact of the competition features both Junior and Youth categories and has gained prominence as a platform for skill development and empowerment with continued support from government agencies and private organizations including the FCT Education Secretariat of the FCT Administration.
