Lamenting the current hardship and high cost of Food Items, in the country, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter has called on the Federal Government to implement measures to stablise the economy towards addressing the alarming high cost of food item across the country especially in the FCT.
NAWOJ who made this call at the end of the Congress recently held in Abuja, deliberated on critical issues affecting the nation unanimously resolved to take the positions towards resolving the challenges.
The meeting which was chaired by the Chairperson of the association, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, expressed grave concern over the worrisome cost of living which has reduced the standard of living and thereby increased hunger across the country.
‘’The rise in the prices of foodstuffs is particularly alarming, causing widespread hardship and hunger among the populace. This has also reduced the standard of living drastically. NAWOJ therefore calls on the Government to implement immediate measures to stabilize the economy and make essential goods more affordable for all Nigerians.’’
NAWOJ having acknowledged the growing discontent among citizens due to food insecurity and hunger, appealed for the forthcoming protests and demonstrations to be conducted peacefully, ensuring that the voices of the affected are heard without resorting to violence.
Additionally, they call on appropriate authorities to provide adequate security and protection for all the protesters, safeguarding their right to express their grievances without fear of harm or intimidation.
The congress commends the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy and the Mandate Secretary for the FCT Women’s Affairs Secretariat, Hon. Adedayo Benjamins- Laniyi for their relentless efforts in championing the rights and welfare of women and children in the Society.
Their various interventions and initiatives have significantly contributed to the empowerment of women and the protection of children across the country.
