… seeks more appointment of women into key position
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, FCT Chapter, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s led administration for the women elected and appointed into various positions in public offices.
This was contained in a communique by NAWOJ, over the weekend.
The Women asked the government not to relent on the country’s commitment to 35 percent affirmative action, by appointing more women into key positions in the executive and the legislative arms.
The congress in its session, also condemned in strong terms, the rising rate of Sexual and Gender Based Violence, SGBV.
NAWOJ further encouraged women to speak up against domestic and work place violence experienced by the female gender, while calling for strict enforcement of VAPP ACT, by the government to curb SGBV.
The Association then raised alarm on over 300% inflation rate on food stuffs, transportation, accommodation and school fees, as the income of workers are not boosted.
They urged the government to be proactive, in cushioning the effects of subsisdy removal, noting that aggression has increased in families while crime has increased in the society due to high cost of living.
NAWOJ FCT also raised issues of insecurity, as the FCT is not safe from high criminal activities in the suburbs, farmlands and even in the city centre.
The Congress also urged the government to buy off all the farm produce from farmers to store them in silos. This act will encourage more food production and exportation which will effectively increase GDP, job creation and food security in the society.
The Association commended the Honourable FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for swinging into action of taking assessment of infrastructural facilities in the FCT for corrective measures. However, the FCT Minister’s attention was called to tackle the issue of criminalities, bad roads, street lights, busted sewage pipes, and theft of manhole covers in the FCT.
NAWOJ enjoined FCT residents to embrace Park and Pay policy to boost safety on the roads, admonishing women to discourage the perception of women being each other’s worst enemy.
“Women are encouraged to advance the cause of other women and shun enemity amongst the female gender,” NAWOJ added.
End.
Good story.
