New Year Kindness: Senator Akobundu, Wife Host Widows, Renew Lifeline of Hope in Abia

In keeping with their long-standing commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu, and his wife, Mrs Adeola Akobundu, on Friday, January 2, 2026, hosted widows from their community in Oloko, Ikwuano Local Government Area.

The annual New Year outreach, held at the Senator’s country home, drew a large turnout of widows who were presented with bags of rice, wrappers and cash support to ease their economic burdens.

Addressing the women, Mrs Adeola Akobundu described the gathering as a deeply fulfilling experience, noting that spending time with the widows continually inspires her to do more in service to humanity.

She assured them of her sustained support and encouraged them to keep their faith in God, whom she described as the ultimate source of comfort and recompense.

In his remarks,Senator Akobundu, expressed appreciation to the women for their steadfast support over the years. He assured them that they would remain a top priority in his constituency engagements. He further disclosed plans to roll out additional empowerment programmes designed specifically to address their needs and provide support for their children.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the widows conveyed profound gratitude to the senator and his wife for their consistent care and generosity. They recalled with joy that the annual get-together and gifts have been a tradition since 2005—long before Senator Akobundu’s foray into active politics—describing the gesture as a testament to the couple’s genuine kindness and compassion.

The event featured songs of praise and heartfelt prayers offered by the women for Senator Akobundu and his family. It concluded with prayers and blessings by Rev. Fr. Prof. Mike Uka, who prayed for the good health and wellbeing of the widows and their children, as well as God’s continued favour upon Senator Austin Akobundu and his household.
