Now that Gov Uzodimma Has Assured Again of Free, Fair Election: The Problem with The Opposition Parties.

Governor Hope Uzodimma while speaking at the grand finale of APC campaign ahead of Saturday’s LGA election, said and assured inter alia: that the forth coming LGA election will be free, fair and credible. He said it with a well measured sincerity and politically untainted assurance.

Of course, as a leader of the ruling party in the state, the Governor will ordinarily want his party to win the election, just as any other person including those in the opposition would have loved if given the same opportunity.

However, the problem with the opposition in Imo state is that their hands are full with enough intra party irreconcilable crisis, such that they lack enough political stamina to withstand a major contestation. The little strength they have, they keep investing it in name calling, propaganda and engaging in other inanities.

PDP and other opposition parties in Imo state are not campaigning and are not ready to campaign either. In Akwa Ibom, for instance where PDP is in power, APC is campaigning vigorously for the forth coming LGA election of that Akwa’ Ibom state but in Imo state, PDP is only busy on social media throwing tantrums and expecting miracle.

Already, the opposition appear to have thrown in the towel even before the commencement of the LGA election. They are not campaigning; they are not engaging and they are not putting their house in order as well. They are only strategizing, possibly on how to go to court, a stratagem that will most likely summersault to failure as usual. In order words, they have already given up to failure even without giving a trial…

Governor Hope Uzodimma has, since assuming office demonstrated signs of a true Democrat. He has, in an unmistakable term shown that he believes in upholding democratic tenets in its leaps and bounds. The only thing Governor Uzodimma has succeeded is instilling this sense of defeatist phobia in the minds of the opposition. The opposition parties and their members have this phobia that the Governor is a master of the game of politics and that challenging him is akin to the Devil challenging God.

They know that Governor Uzodimma has performed so well that he is loved by the people and thus, very difficult to defeat him in any contest. They know that with the kind of doggedness in the man, particularly seeing the way he surmounted all the plots by the same opposition in the past against him never to allow him become Governor, there is no need standing on his way anymore. This is an understandable apprehension but again, the opposition greatest problem is their inability to form a united front. They are their major problem.

So, on Saturday, the opposition should bear in mind that if APC wins landslide as it is likely, it is majorly because the opposition are not strong and never campaigned. This is again because you cannot reap if you don’t sow. You cannot expect to win an election when only what you are currently doing is to sit down and strategize on how to go to court. Perhaps, you erroneously think that the judges themselves are not part of the society and are not aware that you simply aren’t doing enough to win.

Governor Hope Uzodimma as a leader is doing exactly what is expected of him. He cannot do his job as an APC leader and do the job of the opposition for them. What he owes everybody including the opposition is to provide a level playing field and ensure and assure the people of adequate security which are exactly what he did today and had been doing. So, if they like, let them continue to masturbate with irrelevant things and spewing out blackmail on social media. Heaven helps those who help themselves.
