The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has warmly welcomed athletes to Edo State for the South-South Zonal Eliminations for Ball Games, a crucial step in the journey to the 2025 National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

During a press briefing with journalists, Hon. Enabulele stated, “Edo State is honored to host this prestigious event, despite the short notice of less than four weeks. I assure you that we are fully prepared to deliver a well-organized and successful competition.”

He expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, for their relentless commitment to sports development. “Their administration’s support has provided us with the enabling environment to host this significant event,” he noted.

“Governor Okpebholo’s leadership continues to lay a strong foundation for the growth of sports in our state, and for that, we are truly appreciative. Sports have always been a powerful tool for unity, discipline, and youth empowerment. As we gather here today, let us remember that beyond competition, this event is an opportunity to foster friendship, teamwork, and mutual respect among our young athletes,” Enabulele added.

He urged the athletes from Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States to compete with passion, determination, and sportsmanship. “You are not just representing your states but also showcasing the strength and talent of the South-South region. Give it your best, and let your performance speak for itself.”

Addressing officials and referees, Hon. Enabulele emphasized the importance of fair play and impartiality in officiating. “The credibility of this tournament depends on your integrity, and we expect nothing but unbiased and professional judgment to ensure a successful competition.”

With this warm welcome, the stage is set for an exciting and competitive series of events, showcasing the best of South-South talent in sports.

In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Sports Commission, Mr. Peter Njoku, said, “The South-South zone remains a strong pillar in Nigerian sports. Specifically, for these elimination games, we have a total of 688 athletes—378 females and 310 males—competing in various events.” Njoku commended Governor Okpebholo for hosting the elimination games despite the short notice.
