NUJ Mourns Dokpesi, Says It’s Great Loss To Media

Members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FCT Council have mourned the sudden death of media mogul and Chairman of DAAR Communications PLC owners of African Independent Television, AIT and RayPower FM, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi.

They described the incident as a personal loss to the NUJ FCT Council and journalism in general.

In a statement released in Abuja, Monday, jointly signed by the union’s Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche and its Secretary, Ochiaka Ugwu, respectively, the council received with deep shock and surprise, the news of the death of the late statesman, politician, philanthropist and media personality.

The statement read, “Dopkesi before his demise was always in the vanguard of defending good causes, upholding fairness, promoting human rights and democracy with his media.

“He demonstrated focus on objectivity and balanced reportage by always giving all parties opportunity to present their views irrespective of gender, religion, political and tribal affiliations.  

“He was a good friend of the NUJ Council as he encouraged DAAR staffers to unionize and identify with the council.”

“The council consoles the family and the DAAR Group over the tragic passing, and urges them to take consolation in his pioneering revolution of private broadcasting in the country.”
