Right Group Expresses Concern Over Kaduna Bombing

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has expressed its concern over the recent accidental bombing by the Nigerian Air Force in Kaduna.

In a statement by its national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident as well as adequate compensation for victims’ families.

The group also urged the Air Force to put measures in place to prevent such operational errors from occurring again.

While details of the incident are still unclear, preliminary reports suggest that around 30 people were killed when a bomb was dropped on Tudun Biri during a Maulud celebration.

HURIWA finds it shocking that there have been multiple incidents of accidental bombings resulting in civilian deaths and is concerned about potential increases in fatalities from this latest tragedy.

The right group recall a similar incident in January 2017 when an Air Force fighter jet mistakenly bombed a refugee camp, killing over 100 refugees and aid workers.

This incident marked the first time Nigeria’s military had admitted to making such an error.

In light of these tragic events, HURIWA challenges the government to undertake comprehensive investigations aimed at preventing further accidents involving civilians.
