Senator Akobundu Inspects His Ongoing Road Project in Ikwuano LGA

As a demonstration of his continued commitment to the welfare of his constituents, and the growth and development of his constituency, the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Austin Akobundu took time out in the New Year season to inspect the ongoing Oloko-Amizi Road project located in Ikwuano Local Government Area. The project, spearheaded by the lawmaker and the Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation, is part of his broader strategy to positively impact every community across the six local government areas in Abia Central Senatorial District.

The Oloko-Amizi Road project, a 7.5-kilometre stretch with a width of 11.3 metres, will serve as a major arterial road connecting Ikwuano to vital areas like Ikot-Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, and the Ngwa axis of Abia State. This route offers a shorter path for travellers and goods, including exchange of services thereby reducing transit time, enhancing trade, cooperation, collaboration and harmonious cross-border relationships between the people.

During the inspection, a visibly elated Senator Austin Akobundu who commended the contractors for the quality of work done so far, described the road project as “a lifeline for our people,” saying that, “It will open up the area for developmental activities and serve as an alternative to the Ikot Ekpene road often plagued by traffic jams. Drainages, which are crucial for the road’s durability, are almost 2 kilometers complete. Once the festivities are over, we will begin earthworks and asphalting.”

Continuing, Akobundu said, “These projects are part of a larger strategy to uplift every local government in the district. My goal is to create a legacy that will outlive my time in the National Assembly.

“The Oloko-Amizi Road will bring economic and social benefits to our people. They will attract investments and create jobs for our youths many of whom we are already equipping with skills for the future. We remain open to partnerships with agencies and organizations that share our vision for sustainable development,” he concluded.

The representative of the contracting firm, Mr. Emeka Ukandu, assured the public that construction remains on schedule, with quality assurance taken as a priority.

Elder Amaobi Chinyere, a local resident, commended the Senator for the road project which he confirmed has the potential to transform agricultural trade by connecting farmers to markets. He also extolled the him for other community-oriented projects he has been executing across the 6 LGAs that make up the senatorial district, saying that they are already impacting the benefitting communities positively.

Recall that Senator Austin Akobundu had earlier flagged off the Oloko-Amizi Road project on November 14, 2024.

With numerous ongoing projects, Senator Austin Akobundu continues to demonstrate his dedication to empowering his constituents and laying the groundwork for a prosperous Abia Central.
