The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Austin Akobundu has called for calm after the unfortunate attack that took the life of two soldiers at a checkpoint in Umuopara area of Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Wednesday morning.
In his message on Saturday to the affected community which is in his senatorial district, Senator Akobundu empathised with them and urged them to look forward to the restoration of normalcy in the area soon as he and other stakeholders continue to engage the military, and other relevant agencies to effectively bring the situation under control.
While condoling with the Nigerian Army over the loss of its personnel in the attack, Senator Akobundu expressed his confidence in the professionalism of the Nigerian Army to handle the issue.
“It is an unfortunate situation we have on our hands. But I trust the professionalism of the military to bring the situation under control without subjecting innocent citizens to any difficulty.
“While I most sincerely condole with the military hierarchy over the loss of its personnel in that attack, I urge all those behind it to embrace peace and dialogue since violence produces nothing but chaos, anarchy and doom, but a peaceful society will enable progress and prosperity for all,” the statement concluded.
