Have you ever wished to be like someone else?
In our society today, it’s common to admire others—to see someone wearing beautiful clothes, driving expensive cars, living in luxury—and silently wish you had their life. But if some of these people told you what they went through, what they’re still going through, or what they must continue doing to maintain that lifestyle… you would never wish to be like them.
A story was once told of a woman known for her stunning appearance. She dressed elegantly, always turning heads. One day, a friend approached her and said, “I admire you so much, I wish I could look like you.” The woman looked at her and gave a faint smile. Then, slowly, she lifted her gown—beneath the beauty was a deep, rotten wound, crawling with maggots. The friend froze in shock. The glamour was just a disguise… underneath was unthinkable pain.
There are people with money, but behind their wealth is a lifetime of torment. They can afford the best beds, but they can’t sleep at night. Some only sleep during the day because the night is filled with voices, shadows, and hauntings. They live in fear. Their sleep has been stolen.
Some of them are bound by rituals—secrets they can never speak of.
They’ve made sacrifices that strip away their peace.
They’ve visited shrines, taken blood oaths.
They’ve killed, they’ve betrayed, they’ve abandoned humanity.
They’ve slept in mortuaries.
They’ve lived in cemeteries.
They’ve had sex with mad women.
They’ve practiced sodomy.
They’ve killed their own family members.
Some have snatched newborn babies… pounded them… and consumed them… all in the name of wealth, fame, or political power.
If some of them told you the cost of what they have, you’d run in the opposite direction.
You, who sleeps peacefully at night…
You, who walks freely without fear of death or madness…
You, who eats without thinking of curses…
Why would you trade that for a lifestyle drenched in blood?
Not all that glitters is gold.
But let us also be fair—not all wealthy people are evil.
Not all success stories are rooted in darkness.
There are men and women who built their wealth through hard work, integrity, consistency, and the grace of God.
They did not kill. They did not sell their souls. They did not hurt others to rise.
These are the ones you can admire. These are the ones whose footsteps you can follow.
Because clean wealth exists. Honest success is possible.
So before you wish to be like anyone, ask yourself: What’s their story? What’s the price they paid? Can I walk that path in peace?
Be content. Be patient. Be true to yourself.
Your life may be tough now—but at least it’s yours. At least your hands are clean. At least your soul is safe.
Don’t envy anyone blindly. Your time will come. And when it does, it will come with peace, joy, and no hidden pain.
May God protect us from the hidden battles behind the things we admire—and may He guide us towards honest success. Amen.
