Tinubu Suspends Humanitarian Minister Edu

President Bola Tinubu, in his unwavering commitment to maintain the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in managing Nigerians’ commonwealth, has suspended Dr. Betta Edu from her position as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation with immediate effect.

In a statement signed by the Presidential Spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the president directed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and any associated agencies.

Dr. Betta Edu has been instructed to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

‘’ She is required by the President to fully cooperate with investigating authorities during their probe.’’

 President Tinubu has also assigned a panel chaired by Coordinating Minister for Economy and Finance tasked with conducting a thorough diagnostic on social investment programs’ financial architecture and framework.

 This action which aimed at reforming  relevant institutions comprehensively so that institutional frailties are removed for disadvantaged households’ exclusive benefit would restore public confidence in these initiatives.
