I don’t intend to speak for United Nigeria Airlines, officially, but as a dedicated customer and frequent flier with the carrier, to a good extent I can and should speak.
One would have observed, that for so long a time, Nigerian airlines have become, what some commentators call notorious, in their attitude to air fair perceived imbalance across their routes.
Most hit have been the South East routes of Enugu, Owerri and Awka.
It was so bad that at a point, one had to pay as much as #250,000 and sometimes more, to fly from the 45mins Lagos to Enugu and these other destinations.
More than ones, Air Peace was called out specifically. Though they do give technical reasons, as to why; their reasons, unfortunately, didn’t sit well with the passengers on these routes.
More annoying was that the proprietors of the accused major airlines are also from the same destination states.
In the last two weeks, to my amazement and suspension, and to few others I guess, United Nigeria seem to have heard what the people are saying, and have struck down their fares to as low as #95,000 on same routes.
Their services and planes have not changed. In fact, they are better. What could have happened? Air Peace and Ibom Air have not taken cue. Whatever the hell is their reason to not do the needful yet, is not acceptable. Still offering tickets at as much as #150,000 on same route United is offering #95,000, if not reviewed without delay, could be viewed as extortion and should be discouraged.
Whatever Prof Okonkwo is doing to offer decent fare and service to his people, should be sustained; and we the people will not forget.
This house, and to many not here, should go straight and buy your festive flight tickets from United Nigeria Airlines. Their services improved very well, yet their rates have reduced.
It’s pleasant to say that Prof has shown the humane side of doing business successfully in the jungle called Nigeria.
Thank you, Prof Okonkwo and to all your wonderful team. Keep it up.
Shalom!
